Get on the train! The BODYPUMPTM Express is the fastest way in the universe to get in shape. You may already know about the strength, endurance, and toning benefits of this stellar format from Les Mills International, but there is another reason to talk about the express option.

With holidays approaching, we often find that members forsake their time in class to buy another gift or attend another party. That is exactly the situation the short (30 minute) form of BODYPUMPTM was created to correct. You absolutely will not achieve identical benefits in the 30 minute class, but this abbreviated session may be just the fix for the holiday crunch.

Most of us can carve out 30 minutes during lunch, early in the morning or after dinner, even during the busiest time of year. Doing so may just save you from everything from a bad mood to a soft tummy! In this shorter, Les Mills approved format, you will still warm up and work your legs, chest, back, and abs. These muscle groups are key to the maintenance of posture, overall tone, and functional strength. Whenever you can, you should still attend the original BODYPUMPTM class for the additional benefit of arm toning, stabilizer development, and more calories burned!

Does your team deserve a little recognition? Would you like to have the finest presenters in the Midwest visit YOUR facility? Do your members need to know that your club is among the finest offering group fitness in your area? Do you throw a great party? Do you have room in your facility for at least 100 group participants? Then you should host a QUARTERLY!

Hosting a quarterly is merely a matter of allowing the Les Mills Midwest fanatics to grace your space for one full day. You provide only the center, and we do the rest! You may earn instant credibility with your staff and membership by being SELECTED to host such a wonderful educational opportunity for your fellow fitness professionals across the Midwest. Your staff will have the privilege of sleeping in their own beds while earning continuing education and learning from the US National trainer team!

If this sounds like something you want to do, contact your club coach, area rep, or send an e-mail to editor@mw.lesmillsusa.com. By hosting a quarterly, pictures of your facility may be featured in our newsletter and your site will be advertised for weeks on the LMMW website! Take a chance and throw a party…you might even take some ideas away to really impress your members at your own quarterly launch!

Contact us soon…there are only 4 quarters in a year!

You may not be through the holidays yet, but you can’t wait until then to plan the 1st quarter. Most of us know that nearly HALF of the annual earnings/membership sales of a health club occur during the first quarter. It is therefore imperative that we get January RIGHT!

New Year’s resolutions are not the only things new in January. Members expect some new equipment, new programs, and/or new instructors to help them on their fitness journeys. The most cost effective way to keep things “new” is to offer a great new experience in your group fitness room. Les Mills licensees understand the value of keeping current with choreography, music and enthusiasm. What better time than the New Year to introduce an entirely new experience to add to your existing Les Mills menu? Remember, in order to license, train staff, and schedule a launch, you must have your team in training a minimum of 8 weeks in advance of the proposed launch date. This means that if you want a new program on that all important first quarter schedule, NOW is the time to act!

The economy isn’t the only thing that is weak right now. Have you looked at the physical education classes in your school district? Many small towns don’t even have the budget to hire licensed educators in this area. Some use grad students and/or volunteers to conduct class and even coach sports teams. Hasn’t anyone noticed that we are in the middle of an obesity epidemic? There is a solution.

In the Midwest we are fortunate to have had some successful, creative instructors begin addressing the issues aforementioned by getting proactive. There are a number of private and government grants that can be accessed to improve public school physical education. The proven nature of BODYPUMPTM and other peer reviewed programs from Les Mills makes it the perfect program for which to obtain a grant.

Here at Les Mills Midwest, we love to celebrate with clubs who are really embracing the culture of Les Mills. For anyone who has been struggling with the addition of RPMTM to their array of offerings, we present Jay Soppe and West Family YMCA in Davenport, Iowa as a case study in getting it right! The unique approach this facility has taken to the program has yielded significant results in both revenue and member retention which is up 7% in just 10 months! Total memberships are up 5% for the year to date.

JAY: “We charge $27 a session for RPMTM and $18 for a Freestyle Cycling Class session, this is for an 8-10 week session so RPMTM comes out to about 3$ per class, freestyle about $2. (RPMTM participants receive an RPMTM t-shirt…great way to give a perceived benefit while advertising!) We purchased 11 indoor cycles, after 3 years of effort trying to get them.  We started out with 9 freestyle classes with success due to the novelty of the bikes, as revenue started to decrease by about 10% each session we were approached by Annie Schaefer who was at another branch in our association.

If you want to make BODYJAMTM stronger in your club, or if you’ve got members who want to dance but have been scared to give it a go, the new options in BODYJAMTM are just what you need. In the next release you get two classes for the price of one – the complexity has been dropped to an all-time low AND advanced options have been introduced which can be added throughout the class.

The two BODYJAMTM options were created in response to worldwide feedback that while many clubs and instructors were enjoying great success with the program, others were struggling with issues such as recruitment and maintaining good class numbers.

While the BODYJAMTM advanced options have a similar level of complexity to previous releases, the regular option has a substantial (approximately 30%) decrease in complexity making it easier to learn and easier to do. Tricky moves, quick choreographic builds and extra dance detail that challenge the newer and less-coordinated dance enthusiast have all been modified.

BODYJAMTM is once again backing the global Dance4Life campaign to inspire, mobilize and unite young people to push back HIV and AIDS. This year there’s a hot prize for the team who raises the most money for this worthwhile cause – BODYJAMTM Program Director Gandalf ‘G’ Archer will come to your club to present a BODYJAMTM class!

The Dance4Life campaign has been kicked off with an awesome Warmup Track for BODYJAMTM 47 – See Me by Jesse Voorn featuring ZoeXenia. It’s a 2008 Dance4Life anthem and the track has been specially choreographed by G. Creating a special event around the launch of BODYJAMTM 47 is a great way to build a buzz around the campaign. Last year, clubs around the world held events such as silent auctions and dance parties to raise money.

At www.lesmills.com/dance4life you'll find useful information to help you run a successful campaign:
  • A step-by-step guide written by Julie Bush of Gold's Gym, Idaho, USA. Julie's team raised the most money in 2006 and 2007.
  • Marketing materials you can use to promote the event in your club
  • A press release to help gain media interest and publicity for your event
  • A simple method to donate the money raised
  • Dance4Life logos, t-shirt logos and information flyer
  • Success stories from previous years
