SCW Fitness Education was founded by Sara Kooperman, JD in 1987.
Since that time we have hosted over 80 MANIA Group Fitness, Personal Training and Club
Management Conventions and have touched more than 120,000 fitness professionals.
It is our 20 year anniversary and a time to review, restore and reinvent. SCW Fitness Education (formerly Sara's City Workout) started as a small fitness studio in downtown Chicago. Oprah Winfrey used to come exercise with her production staff in a lovely studio that could only hold 24 comfortably. While this sounds like an exciting beginning for any young business, the financial failure of this studio marked the launch of SCW Fitness Education, one of the country�s largest fitness instructor training companies.
We have traveled from a bedroom in a third floor walk-up to a corporate
office coordinating a staff of 28. We've watched the emergence of
step aerobics in 1989, experienced the onslaught of kickboxing in 1999,
the excitement of Pilates and yoga in 2002-03 and became a major distributor of choreographed programs as the Midwest distributor of the Les Mills programs in 2005. Of course we're not done! We constantly keep track of industry trends and are always gearing up for the newest programming as it's released in the marketplace.
Our educational division, SCW Fitness Specialty Certificates, has developed high-quality specialty certificates on topics ranging from Pilates to Pregnancy and from Aquatics to Aging. We have also produced almost 400 DVDs and are the largest producer of fitness instructor training DVDs in the world. Additionally, we have produced numerous instructional and workout DVDs to companion QVC and in-home fitness products.
