ATTRACTIONS & TOURS

THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE
RT 101., San Francisco, CA, 94101
www.goldengatebridge.org/

The Golden Gate Bridge is an engineering marvel. Not only is it one of the city's most enjoyable things to do, but it's also one of the most-photographed sights in the world. You can't really appreciate the size and height unless you've walked on it, at least a little way. At mid-span you stand 220 feet above the water's surface and passing ships below look like small toys. The distance from one vista point to another is 1.7 miles, a fun round trip if you're up to it, but even a short walk will be interesting.

ALCATRAZ
San Francisco Bay, CA
www.nps.gov/alca

Named by Spanish Explorer Manuel de Ayala Isla de los Alcatraces (Island of the Pelicans), this barren rock in the middle of San Francisco Bay called Alcatraz has been used as a Civil War fort, Federal prison and symbol of Native American plight. Now, the National Park Service runs Alcatraz Island. Many Alcatraz Island prison buildings are gone. Some burned during the 1960s American Indian Alcatraz occupation. The guard's residences, deteriorated beyond repair, were torn down in the 1970s. Barracks from Alcatraz Island's stint as a military base, the cell house, lighthouse and a few others remain.

RESTAURANTS & BARS

DELFINA
3621 18th St., San Francisco, CA, 94110
www.delfinasf.com

Simplicity and authenticity reign at this small, popular restaurant. Zinc tabletops and exotic hardwoods bear this out, as does the incomparable Italian fare with its top-notch ingredients. Treat yourself with grilled calamari salad, braised rabbit, steak frites, roasted chicken, or salmon with fresh vegetables. Although Delfina has garnered much acclaim since it premiered, the trattoria still delights with casual ambience, friendly service and satisfyingly reasonable prices – all boons to dining aficionados.

MAYA
303 2nd St. & Harrison, San Francisco, CA, 94107
www.mayasf.com

Richard Sandoval brought something unique to the City that has seen it all when it comes to restaurants. Looking to his native Acapulco for inspiration, Sandoval created an authentic upscale Mexican restaurant to showcase a side of Mexican cuisine that is rarely seen north of the border.

THE BRICKHOUSE CAFE
426 Brannan St, San Francisco, CA, 94107
http://www.brickhousesf.com

We began over 10 years ago as a small coffee bar nestled snuggly in the SOMA district of San Francisco. As the lines grew longer, and SOMA flourished, it became apparent that coffee alone was not going to cut it. There was a serious demand in this neighborhood for a comfortable space, that provided quality, yet reasonably priced food...so we evolved. Since then we've organically grown into an eclectic café with a tasty and affordable menu of quality comfort food. High ceilings, wood beams, comfy nooks, skylights and lots of large windows add to the casual ambience of this roomy neighborhood cafe.
